The Kalmar Nyckel offers several extensive crew training classes each year.
Our winter crew training
class takes place in Wilmington,
DE at our ship yard and spans 11
Saturdays from January through
April. The many participants in
this winter class also assist
with the ship's maintenance, and
rig-up in the spring. Our
summer crew training class, a
2.5 week condensed course, takes
place aboard the ship, often
while we're in Lewes, DE. The
summer class is designed for
local Lewes residents and other
down-state residents, as well as
for out-of-state/country
volunteers, who live aboard
during the training (Class size
limited).
We also have an independent
study crew training class
catering to experienced
square-rig sailors who are
interested in joining the
volunteer crew for the season.
Please request an application if
you believe that you fall into
this category.
