Stories of the Underground Railroad

Discover “Stories of the Underground Railroad” through two free performances of William Still  —the Philadelphia “conductor” who rescued hundreds from slavery —portrayed by actor historian Keith Henley of The American Historical Theatre. Honoring Black History Month, this fifth annual Kalmar Nykel Foundation event also includes community partner displays, free admission, museum and Fort Christina Park tours, and parking. Co-sponsored by the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce.

The show is recommended for ages 8+ and runs 30 minutes plus 15 minutes for questions. Tickets are free but you must register online for one show:

This special Black History Month event runs from 1:30-4:30pm on Sunday, February 1, 2026. In addition to the two free performances listed above, please explore our building and the Park next door:

  • Community partner displays
  • Free tours of the Copeland Maritime Center including model ship exhibits
  • Free guided walking tours of neighboring Fort Christina Park where freedom seekers embarked on boats and met "conductors"with horses and carriages. Fort Christina Park is on the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom (the same site where Kalmar Nyckel landed in 1638). Weather dependent.
  • Free admission and parking.
